Windshield Crack Repair in Ottawa
Single cracks up to 14 inches, repaired in your driveway or parking lot. If it can't be repaired properly, we'll tell you before you spend a dollar.

Yes, long cracks can be repaired
Many people are told a cracked windshield always has to be replaced, or that anything longer than a dollar bill is too far gone. That "dollar bill rule" is outdated.
Under ROLAGS, the industry standard for repairing laminated windshield glass, single cracks up to 14 inches long can be repaired. That's roughly the width of a laptop screen. With the right resin and technique, a repaired crack is structurally stabilized and stops spreading, for a fraction of what a new windshield costs.
What makes a crack repairable
Not every crack under 14 inches is a good candidate. Here's what we look at before we repair:
Length
Up to about 14 inches is within the repairable limit. Past that, a replacement is the safe choice.
Where it started
Most repairable cracks start from a rock chip and run outward across the glass. Stress cracks that appear with no impact point, often starting at the edge of the windshield, behave differently and are usually harder to repair reliably.
Where it sits
Cracks right in the driver's line of sight, in front of the camera or sensors behind the windshield, or that run into the edge of the glass may need a replacement instead. Damage in front of a camera can affect lane-keeping and collision-warning systems.
How old and dirty it is
A fresh, clean crack fills better. Over time, dirt, washer fluid and moisture work into the crack and make the repair less clear. That's one more reason not to wait.
Single crack vs. many
We repair a single crack, or a chip with a crack running from it. A windshield with several cracks or a spiderweb pattern needs replacing.
How we repair a crack
- 1
Assess and stabilize. We check the crack's end point and stop it from running further before we start.
- 2
Clean the crack. We clear moisture and debris out of the break along its full length.
- 3
Fill from the end back to the impact point. We work a thin crack resin into the crack a section at a time, gently flexing the glass so the resin draws all the way into the break.
- 4
Cure. UV light hardens the resin along the full length, bonding the two edges of the crack.
- 5
Finish. We scrape the surface flush and polish it so your wipers move over it cleanly.
A faint line will usually remain visible. The goal of crack repair is to restore strength and stop the crack from spreading, not to make it disappear.

Windshield crack repair FAQ
How long a crack can be repaired?
+
Single cracks up to about 14 inches, which is the limit set by ROLAGS, the industry repair standard. Longer than that, replacement is the safe option.
How much does it cost to repair a crack in a windshield?
+
A flat $100 for a single crack up to 14 inches, plus a mobile fee based on travel time. Or bring your car to us in Barrhaven and pay just the $100. The quote is free.
Will the crack disappear after repair?
+
No. A faint line usually stays visible. The repair bonds the glass and stops the crack from spreading, but it won't make it look brand new.
Can a crack spread during the repair?
+
It's uncommon, but stressed glass can sometimes run during or after a repair. That's why we check the crack carefully first and tell you upfront if we think the risk is high. If the risk is too high, we'll recommend replacing it instead.
How long does crack repair take?
+
Usually under an hour, depending on the length of the crack. You can drive the car once we're done.
Can you repair a crack in the winter?
+
Often, yes. Cold glass and moisture make cracks harder to fill, so we warm and dry the glass carefully before starting. A garage or covered spot helps on very cold days.
Is it safe to drive with a cracked windshield in Ontario?
+
A crack weakens the windshield and can block your view, and Ontario can ticket drivers for an obstructed windshield. It's best to get it repaired or replaced as soon as possible, especially if the crack is in your line of sight or growing.
What if my chip has a crack running from it?
+
If a crack runs more than 2 inches from the chip, it's priced as a crack repair ($100). Shorter legs are included in the chip price.
What if the crack can't be repaired?
+
If we arrive and the damage isn't safely repairable, you pay nothing — no repair charge and no mobile fee.
